Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.” It is in this spirit that the staff of our Religious Education Program seek to help parents in their primary role as catechists to provide children the catechesis and skills to grow and mature in their understanding and practice of the Catholic faith. We strive to assist children in committing themselves to a closer personal relationship with God. We hope to foster a sense of belonging to the Catholic Church in our children.
Grades K-6 meet Sundays in the Crosby Center during the school year immediately following the 8:00AM Sunday Mass. We strongly encourage families to attend this Mass as it encourages our children to practice their faith and to grow into adults with a mature Catholic faith. Each class is structured to include knowledge of the doctrine and practices of the Catholic Church. Children and their families participate in a variety of activities including prayer and community service projects. Grade 2 children prepare for the sacraments of First Penance and First Eucharist.
Our young adolescents in grades 7 and 8 and 9 experience learning sessions that reflect a balance between knowledge about Catholic doctrine and tradition and skills for living the gospel in their everyday lives. Opportunities for the development and sharing of individual gifts and talents within the context of parish ministries are provided. Service projects enable them to fulfill the Gospel message of loving God and loving neighbor.
Candidates for Confirmation are accepted at the 6th grade level. Preparation for Confirmation and reception of the sacrament leads our youth to develop a personal relationship with Jesus, greater knowledge of the Holy Spirit, and a maturation of faith to be able to assume the responsibilities of Catholic life.
